GROUP 32 Steering Bulletin Number 32 04 93 (3869) Woodcliff Lake, NJ Sept. 1993 Product Engineering SUBJECT: Handling of Steering Box and Rack Core and Warranty Returns MODEL: All Situation: Steering boxes and racks which are warranty or core returns should be handled in such a manner as to prevent damage to the unit. Damage caused by improper handling (i.e., clamping in a vise or beating with a hammer) or improper shipping methods can result in core credit or warranty credit being refused. Action: Protective shipping caps and plugs are provided with replacement units, and these caps and plugs should be transferred to the unit being returned. Refer to illustrations. Returned units should not be cleaned with a pressure washer as water may penetrate into the unit causing rust damage to parts. All technicians should be made aware of proper repair procedures to prevent damage from excess force. Warranty Status: Information only.
